  1. Astro-World Installation
  2.  
  3. INSTALLATION OF THE DISK-VERSION
  4. ********************************
  5. To install Astro-World, run windows. It is recommended that no
  6. other programs (THIS INCLUDES ANY ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE) are running 
  7. while the installation takes place, which is just good practice.
  8.  
  9. Insert Setup disk #1 into the floppy drive and from the Program
  10. Manager, click File and then Run. Type A:\Setup (or B:\Setup if
  11. you using the B: drive). The setup will ask if you wish to
  12. install the software on C:\ASTRO22E (you can type in the drive and
  13. directory of your choice here). Click OK and insert disk #2 
  14. when asked to do so.
  15.  
  16. After installing the program, it is absolutely necessary to
  17. integrate the Astro-Font into the list of installed fonts:
  18. It contains the symbols of the Zodiacal Signs and the Planets.
  19. If you forget to install this font, you'll find ordinary letters
  20. instead of Planets and Zodiacal Signs on your print-out!

  23. INSTALLATION OF THE BBS VERSION
  24. ********************************

  26. The whole package consists of two disks but will be uploaded as physically
  27. *ONE* file which contains both ædisksÆ
  28.  
  29. To install the downloaded image, copy the file into a temporary directory (e.g.: C:\Temp) 
  30. and unpack it with:
  31.  
  32.       PKUNZIP -d -o aw222e.zip
  33.  
  34. The option "-d" is mandatory to insure that the files are being unpacked to the 
  35. according "disk"-directory.
  36. After unpacking you should have: C:\Temp\Disk1 and  C:\Temp\Disk2 
  37.  
  38. Now you can start the program C:\Temp\Disk1\Setup.EXE from Windows (not out of a DOS-Box!).
  39.  
  40. If you work with the program WinZip 6.0 from Nico Mac Computing, unpacking is even easier:
  41. * Open AW222e.zip 
  42. * Click on EXTRACT
  43. * In the field "Extract To:" enter the directory-name  "C:\Temp" 
  44. * Activate (check) the options "Overwrite Existing Files" and "Use Directory Names"

  47. INSTALLATION OF THE ASTRO-FONT
  48. ******************************
  49. To install the Astro font, proceed as follows: If you are still using
  50. Windows 3.1, Start the Control Panel out of the Windows Program Manager.
  51. As Windows 95 user you click on the Start button and choose "Settings"
  52. and "Control Panel"
  53.  
  54. 1 Choose the menu-item Fonts
  55.  
  56. 2 Click the button Add
  57.  
  58. 3 Choose the file, from the directory in which you have installed
  59. Astro World (the default is C:\ASTRO22E).
  60.  
  61. 4 If you have chosen the correct directory, the desired font:
  62. Astro (TrueType) appears in the upper box under List of fonts.
  63. Click on Select All and then OK.
  64.  
  65. 5 The font will be installed and displayed in the font window.
  66.  
  67. 6 The installation of Astro-Font is complete. Finally, click
  68. on Close.
  69.  
  70. That's it! You will find a significant amount of information in
  71. the Help file (click on Help from within Astro-World). Please
  72. note that all of the text and Help files are being processed to
  73. accommodate US-English and will be re-released for version 2.2.
  74.  
  75. Late notes: Old versions (before Mar 1, 1993) of SMARTDRV.SYS
  76. default to enable write-cache. This problem is not limited to
  77. AstroWorld. This can result in ASTRO.INI and database entries
  78. not being written to the disk properly and a loss of data if
  79. anything goes wrong. Recommendation: Update SMARTDRV.SYS, or
  80. disable the Write-cache with the option /X (SMARTDRV.SYS /X).

  83. Including additional Databases
  84.  
  85. In order to integrate additional databases you should proceed
  86. as follows:
  87. 1) Put the diskette into floppy-disk drive A:
  88. 2) Select the menu-item File, then, Include Additional Locations.
  89. 3) Select the database of locations <FILE.ASC> and confirm your
  90. selection with OK.
  91.  
  92. The procedure may take several minutes. In case you are familiar
  93. with DOS, there is a faster method:
  94.  
  95. - Copy the file from the diskette into a temporary directory on
  96.   your hard-disk-drive (or better still a RAM-drive if you have
  97.   set one up).
  98.  
  99. - Select the menu-item Include Additional Locations.
  100.  
  101. - Now the program will complain about there being no diskette in
  102.   drive A.
  103.  
  104. - Select Cancel. Now you will be asked for the file-name. Select
  105.   the path and filename on your hard-disk-drive.
  106.  
  107.
